francesca pastine‘s weapon of choice? an x-acto knife that glides like a pencil over old copies of the glossy and beautiful artforum magazine, subtracting sections to create a piece of artwork out of the popular art publication. she has been using these old magazines (donated by friends) as a medium since 2008 and her crafty concoctions have recently made their way into new american paintings. “starting with the covers, I cut, bend, manipulate, pull, and dig my way through them, revealing a visceral topography of art trends,” says francesca of her project.
