I’m sorry to say that The Flood is going on a bit of a break! I love sharing amazing new artists with you guys everyday, and I still hope to pop in every now and then with a post even while on break, but I think it’s time that I admit that there’s no way I can keep up with the usual daily postings during this month. I’ve been trying very hard to avoid having to do this, but I’ve said “yes” to one too many projects and I have far from enough time in the day for all of them at this point. Eventually something’s gotta give and unfortunately and reluctantly it has to be this blog, but just for a little while!

If you weren’t already aware, I am a designer and artist myself and on top of running my own art/design studio, designing magazines, and living life, I’m just about to open a handmade shop at the end of this month and I still have a ton of work to do. If you’d like to know more about the development of the shop and my art/design studio, check out my other blog @ halfasleepstudio.com.

In the mean time, I would still love to pop in a couple times a week with the type of artist features that would be too good not to share and perhaps still some creative resources posts here and there. So, really, I won’t be totally gone (I couldn’t bear it – this blog is my pulse!), but just know that you won’t see posts from me nearly as often.

Thank you for being such wonderful & understanding readers! I’ll miss you very much, but I hope to be back on a daily basis when things begin to settle down.

4. The Typofiles #100: My Favorite Catalogs – Nubby Twiglet talks about her favorite well-designed shop catalogs, how they serve as inspiration for her print design work, and where to order some for yourself for free. Getting cool things in the mail rules!
5. Lauren Clay – Booooooom featured some truly amazing paper sculptures by Lauren Clay.
6. Printable May Calendar PDF – It’s true, May is almost upon us! Dellie helps us ease into a new month with a nicely designed printable PDF calendar.

Malcolm Liepke is a notable painter who was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1953, but then went on to study at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. After a year and a half of school, he ended up dropping out and instead decided to immerse himself in the work of famous painters he admired such as Edgar Degas, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, and Diego Velazquez. Using their work as inspiration, he created his own paintings which focus on portraying beautiful women in all sorts of glamorous poses. What drew me to his work initially, however, was his gorgeous use of color.

Kelly Thompson is not only a talented freelance illustrator herself, but she also works as a producer and account manager at The Jacky Winter Group, an agency that supports fellow Australian illustrators and helps them land awesome jobs. Her realistic looking-portraits are mixed with patterns, shapes, and colors in a way that really depicts the kinds of things that are at the forefront of both fashion and illustration these days, and she makes it look so easy!
