art > strange brothers.

Gert & Uwe Tobias are German artists and twin brothers who together create strange yet graphic and colorful works using woodblock prints and collage. “What we do is basically based on a system of collages. We take a shape, add a second, combining shapes which often don’t actually fit together. It’s an old principle. Some elements certainly are reminiscent, for example of a hare’s head or a bird’s head, but overall we are trying to allow the invention of figures and introduction of elements to create an atmosphere, an image that is somewhat strange,” explains Gert in this video by CFA Berlin. music > slippery slope.

the do was previously featured here on the flood for their first album, a mouthful, and now they are here again for a new EP “dust it off” and video for “slippery slope” which is talked about in THE FLOOD #2.

The Do (the “dough”) was the first English-singing French band to top the French charts in 2008 with their first studio album “A Mouthful.” Now, Olivia Merilahti, Dan Levy, and drummer Pierre Belleville have released their new EP “Dust it Off” featuring three new songs off their upcoming LP including, “Dust it Off”, “Too Insistent,” and “Slippery Slope.”

Olivia Merilahti’s soft and insane vocals mesh wondrously with Dan Levy’s instrumental framework to create a one-of-a-kind sound that radiates artistic compatibility. Their style oscillates between folk, pop, rock, and jazz, allowing each song on the EP, like their first album, to embody a feel all its own.

The Do’s newly released music video for “Slippery Slope”, a song featuring chant-like singing and tribal drumming, is completely captivating. As you stare into the eyes of a Finnish beauty, you are kidnapped away into a  dreamlit world of tribal masks, wild birds, ninjas, and animal print outfits.

music > new kid.

this ultra-strange brand new music video was designed and directed by erik alkema for dutch/chinese band monokino‘s “new kid.”

‘New Kid’, from the critically acclaimed album “Human Error”, is released by Konkurrent/My First Sonny Weissmuller in Benelux countries and by China’s largest independent record label Modern Sky in China.
The catchy electronic rock track is now visualized by Amsterdam based artist Erik Alkema who designed all featured puppet characters. Beautifully shot by camerawoman Lonneke Worm, the puppets take the stage in the form of a procession for an adolescent in his big bubble of unlimited possibilities. We follow a parade traveling through the Dutch polder‐land where they meet, and are obstructed by the world.
